LA Prepares Water Conservation Plan

May 15th, 2008 by westla_malibu

In an effort to meet our increasing demand for water, today LA county will be reviewing a massive proposal to limit water-wasting activities and recycle sewage water to drinking standards. The plan includes investment in projects to capture and store rainfall and clean up a sprawling, contaminated water supply beneath the San Fernando Valley. It also allocates $1 billion for a water reclamation, including a plan to use treated wastewater to recharge underground drinking supplies serving the Valley, Los Feliz and the Eastside.

Some examples of how this would effect LA county:

-Residents would be urged to change their clothes’ washers,
-New restrictions would be placed on how and when we can water lawns and clean cars.
-Financial incentives and building code changes would be used to incorporate high-tech conservation equipment in homes and businesses.
-Builders would be pushed to install waterless urinals, weather-sensitive sprinkler systems and porous parking lot paving that allows rain to percolate into groundwater supplies.
