Heal The Bay Report Card: Good But Could Be Better

May 22nd, 2008 by westla_malibu

Heal The Bay has published its 2008 Beach Report Card. The good news is that the grades for water quality at Southern California beaches have improved since last year, with a fairly dry winter contributing to better dry weather quality.

Dry weather helps, but storm water runoff is still a problem. Five of the 10 worst areas are in L.A. County, which for the third straight year has California’s most bacteria-laden water.(Avalon Beach, Catalina; Santa Monica Pier; Marie Canyon Storm Drain, Malibu)

Poor grades for year-round dry weather were given to:

Paradise Cove in Malibu (F)
Marie Canyon (F)
Surfrider Beach (C)
Santa Monica Canyon (F)
Santa Monica Pier (F)
