Surfrider WLAM will have a booth at The Malibu Surf Association’s Classic Contest at Surfrider Beach, Malibu from September 12-13. Clean Water at the Bu Campaign Volunteers will be at the beach to spread the word about LA’s Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) public hearing Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 9 a.m. — a great opportunity to ask the RWQCB to improve water quality at the Bu. Surfrider Beach is one of surfing’s legendary waves but has received an ‘F’ water quality rating 62% of this year (as of Aug 1st). With encouragement from the public, and from our Clean Water at the Bu Coalition, LA’s Regional Water Quality Control Board has stepped in to solve this serious public health issue and we will be organizing signups for carpool to their upcoming hearing at the Classic. We ask that RWQCB move on a septics ban in Malibu’s Civic Center, Malibu Colony, and Serra retreat area, to alleviate chronic pollution at Surfrider Beach. This ban would create an enforceable timetable to cleaning up wastewater at Surfrider Beach. More info at: surfriderwlam.org/cleanthebu.
The Malibu Classic is a club-level, invitational contest will be held at Surfrider Beach, and more than 275 invited athletes representing elite sur?ng clubs from California, Hawaii, the East Coast, Japan, and Australia will come together to compete at First Point, Malibu.
