Beach CleanUps
Beach Cleanups are the most immediate action you can take to make our coasts and ocean cleaner and healthier. They are a great way to publicly declare your concern for our local beaches to the various visitors and tourists that frequent them. By picking up trash before it enters the ocean, you prevent the cigarette butts and plastic, which often get mistaken for food, from being eaten by sea animals.
It is also a fun way to spend a few hours at the beach with friends and family. Afterwards, we celebrate by surfing at our clean beach!
Beach Cleanups are held on the 1st Saturday of every month between 9a.m. and 11a.m. at various locations.
Here is the 2010 schedule:
January 2nd – Will Rogers State Beach
February 6th – Topanga
March 6th – Venice N/S
April 3rd – Santa Monica – Tower 26 (Ocean Park)
May 1st – County Line (May Day!)
June 5th – Surfrider Beach – Malibu
July 3rd – Zuma Beach
August 8th – Venice N/S
September 4th – Santa Monica – Tower 20 (Bay St)

To help us run some of the beach cleanups, sign up as a volunteer on our volunteer page:

Add the cleanups to your volunteer calendar and a beach captain will contact you before the cleanup date to coordinate things. Staffing a beach cleanup is one of the best ways to get to know other active members.
