Rise Above Plastics

In conjunction with the Algalita Marine Research Foundation & 5 Gyres

ABOUT RISE ABOVE PLASTICS:

In the U.S. alone,100 billion plastic bags are used annually, and 45 million plastic bottles are used daily. What happens to all this single-use plastic, often thoughtlessly discarded in a matter of minutes? It ends up in our oceans. Thousands of birds, fish and ocean animals are getting strangled by or dying from ingestion of plastic marine debris. Plastics are not biodegradable, but they do photodegrade (by the sun’s UV rays) into microscopic pieces. As a result, fish are eating plastic, and we in turn eat these fish, jeopardizing the health of our food chain.

RISE ABOVE PLASTICS MISSION:

To reduce the impact of plastics in the marine environment by raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and by advocating for a reduction of single-use plastics and the recycling of all plastics.

RISE ABOVE PLASTICS PRESENTATION:

Rise Above Plastics speakers offer a 60 minute presentation to educate and raise awareness about plastic pollution in the ocean and how each of us can do our part to reduce our use of single-use plastics.

Contact us to arrange for a speaker to come to your business, classroom, or community organization. We request a ten day advance notice and always appreciate any donations as well. If you’d like to have the presentation delivered by a group of inspirational youth, we have partnered with Green Ambassadors at Environmental Charter High School, who are experts on the issue. This is a great option for classrooms and youth.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS:

Meeting room with a large screen or wall to project on. Audio speakers a plus. We can bring a laptop and projector, unless your company can provide one. We can bring a laptop and projector, unless your company can provide one.
